History
In 1959, a group of forward thinking service agents formed the Retra TV Service Association of Victoria.
In 1961, this group of service agents, who had by now ventured into retailing, felt that it was time that they formalised their buying group. A meeting of all interested partners was called, and from this meeting, Retravision was born.
The name "Retravision" came from the initials of the Radio Electrical TV Retailers Association, together with the word "vision" that was added to give emphasis to Television, a product that was really taking off in 1961.
The business model created in Victoria was so successful that it was replicated in other states across Australia and later in New Zealand.
The original concept of the group was to give the independent retailer, the opportunity and means of buying and marketing together effectively, and competitively. All these years later, this is still the primary aim and purpose of the Group.
Today
From those humble beginnings in 1961, Retravision has grown to over 450 stores in Australia, and New Zealand. Many stores are based in towns across the country and support the local communities in diverse areas such as Thursday Island, Derby and the North and South Islands of New Zealand.
Retravision stores are each privately owned. It is the entrepreneurial spirit of the owner-operator, backed up by professional management at State and National level that is the key to the success of Retravision.
Retravision prides itself on the knowledge and service offered by dedicated and well trained staff in each of it’s stores. With the increasing complexity and range of electrical products available, the consumer seeks advice and Retravision is there to provide it. While our advertising refers to “More than just the best price” our Company Charter is called “Going the Extra Mile”. To our customers this means:
